Our Lady of Montserrat

Parish church, Mariapfarr, Austria

This is a copy of the statue of Our Lady of Montserrat, which is in a monastery in Montserrat, Catalonia. According to the city's website, "The image of Our Lady of Montserrat, popularly known as La Moreneta (the Dark One), due to the dark colour of Her skin, is a truly beautiful 12th century Romanesque polychrome carving. Pope Leo XIII proclaimed Our Lady of Montserrat Patron Saint of Catalonia in 1881."

The statue was given to the church by Matadepera, Mariapfarr's sister city in Catalonia. The brass plaque on the foot of the statue is inscribed MARE DE DEU MONTSERRAT "LA MORENETA" / PATRONA DE CATALUNYA / MATADEPERA A MARIAPFARR - SETEMBRE 1983, "Mother of God of Montserrat, 'La Moreneta' / Patron Saint of Catalonia / Matadepera to Mariapfarr, September 1983."
